Is it time to make the Presidency a Co-Presidency?
Have you ever tried to take the car keys away from your dad permanently due to old age? Same thing.
My father was a Navy World War II vet, who became a paramedic when paramedics first started back in the sixties. He smoked two packs of cigarettes a day, rarely drank, ate well, was a great cook, and stayed with his wife their entire marriage of almost 50 years.
Dad was quiet, but very stubborn. As the grandson of an Irish immigrant, he had every right to be.
When age finally started slowing him down due to heart and lung issues in his seventies, I began to notice his reflexes were slowing, he was overly cautious to the point where he was causing car wrecks behind him, and he knew that the time had come for him to stop driving, but he was unwilling to give up his keys. He had been someone who drove an ambulance for years, so you can imagine how he felt on that day.
He felt like he was dying. It broke his heart.
If you've ever had to do that, especially with somebody who was born before the 1960s, it's nearly impossible to get them to let go of their vehicles.
Joe Biden has been driving his political vehicle since the 1970s. He has been an excellent politician, statesman, fundraiser, advocate for minorities and the downtrodden in our society, a strong Catholic, and just an overall positive person in the Democratic party. He finally got to be president for 4 years, and he wants to keep going.
Joe Biden is your dad, and you have to take away the keys of the White House from him.
Or maybe you don't.
This is why the idea of co-presidency interests me. It would stop monarchists cold in their tracks and we would get two for the price of one.
Since I heard her speak as a presidential candidate in Panorama City, CA 8 years ago, I knew at that moment that Kamala Harris should be President of the United States. Why can't we give her equal power with Joe Biden, and use their combined knowledge of the Constitution, the law, and how the government is supposed to work, to heal our country and get it back on track?
I would be ecstatic if we had two incredibly smart people with equal powers running the executive branch.
Please, let's do this.
I love your write up dear
No doubt in my mind that it should be a co-presidency. In fact, I would say that in many ways, Kamala needs to be more in charge.
